Meet Kalista

Age: 14

Musical Inspiration: Beyoncé

Life Motto: “Why be ordinary, when you can be extraordinary?”

Social Cause: Gender equality and Amnesty International

Kalista is an outgoing, fun loving girl who belts out Beyoncé songs whenever one comes on the radio. This Canadian-Jamaican loves to add spice to her performances, and has a strong interest in song writing.  She is a determined, high achiever with a heart of gold and longs to make a difference in the world.

Kalista enjoys being active. She participates in numerous school activities; specifically competing in an array of sports.  Kalista is an excellent student. She co-founded the Robotics Club at her school and follows her heart by volunteering and fundraising for causes like World Vision’s “Because I’m a Girl Campaign.”

Music is in Kalista’s blood. According to her mom, she came out of the womb singing. Her formal vocal training began at 9 with the Oshawa Piano & Vocal Academy, and she is currently in grade 4 with the Royal Conservatory of Music. Her powerful voice is undeniably notable. In 2015, she was voted winner of Oshawa’s Got Talent in 2015.

Kalista believes that music is about how it makes you feel and how you allow it to move you. She has not determined what she truly wants to pursue yet. Nonetheless, whether it be singing and acting, competing in the Olympics for Team Canada or engineering, she looks forward to the journey!

Her enthusiasm and light-hearted attitude make her a perfect fit for Girl Pow-R. Kalista is excited to make new friends, but also believes that Girl Pow-R is an opportunity to change the world for the better. Her mission underlies the fact that “women can do just as much as men … thus women should have the same rights to education, health care, and other rights around the world.”

Kalista is a big supporter of women’s rights. Gender equality is the focus of her fight, and ultimately, she wants Girl Pow-R to move people’s bodies, and their hearts.

We thank Kalista for her contributions to Girl Pow-R and hope that we can help make her dreams of helping the world through music, come true.
